Have I ever told you about my BFF Miranda? No? Wel, here is an iChat conversation we just had. (she is the picture of the dog in hot pink on the left, I am the picture of the dog in pale pink on the right. BFFs, yo.)

WHAT. I can post blogs from my iPod? This is ridiculous.

I don't really have anything to say but I won't let that stop me, obvs. This is the end of my second week of school and so far I LOVE IT. every one of my classes is interesting and (here's the kicker) actually relevant to my life in some way. My professors are all excited about their classes and seem to really give a shit about their students. All the administrative staff haves been SO RIDICULOUSLY HELPFUL. There is no bureaucratic bullshit here... I got confused about my schedule yesterday and a security guard actually got on the phone with my professor to ask him where the class was and explained why I was running late, THEN let me use his cell phone to call my broker because my phone had just died. Honestly I am in heaven. The freshmen aren't even annoying me that much.

facts about my boyfriend

1. he was in a levis ad

2. he had hair once

hahahahaha

update: he also apparently has a cameo in a fugazi documentary.

conclusion: maybe i should stop making fun of him so much because he is actually pretty cool.

oh man

apartment hunting in nyc. fuck.

the landlord on 36th street kept me waiting til the end of the month, then gave the apartment to someone else.

scrambled together $4800 for an apartment on 32nd street (BEAUTIFUL apartment, the only place i looked at that was actually suitable for a residence as opposed to a crack den) but then the landlord decided she didn't allow dogs.

looked at another place on 32nd street that was so awful i started crying

this morning i gave $500 to a broker for a place on 29th. it isn't too awful.but the landlord is insisting on meeting my roommate before i can sign the lease, and i don't actually have a roommate yet. dennis had been talking about moving in with me in two or three months so i was just going to bring him and find someone to live in the second room until he could move in, but now he's figured out that he can't leave his current place for at least a year. fun stuff.

so my problem is that this broker has my $500 and i only get it back if i am not approved by the landlord. the plan right now is to come by tonight with dennis as scheduled, then tell the landlord all about the crazy parties i like to have every single night and ask if it is okay to paint all the surfaces in the apartment day-glo orange. that will probs get me rejected, yes? (p.s. this broker is charging me a $2500 fee. is this what anal rape feels like?)

compounding this is the fact that my health insurance through my school just started taking effect, but they refuse to send me any information about it or even my account number. so when i went to pick up all my prescriptions yesterday, my bill was $742. clearly i do not have that kind of money. so until i get this worked out, i am dealing with nyc brokers and landlords WITHOUT my medication.

also, i made a hat. i don't really think i'm a hat person.

i guess i'm not that great at updating this thing. maybe if you leave comments it will encourage me.

School starts tomorrow! My schedule is pretty horrific… Class at 8am, followed by a five hour break, then classes til 6. Yeah, those five hour breaks are going to be great for getting homework done, but not so great for having a reasonable work schedule. Tomorrow I am going to be doing a lot of begging and pleading with some professors to see if I can shift some things around. Squeezing a part-time job into ten hour days is definitely going to be a little ridiculous.

More news on the pessimism front: the crazy landlord is STILL being crazy. No word about the apartment yet. I’m starting to look at some other places, but so far they are all too expensive, in pretty sketchy neighborhoods, and not near express train stops. (Honestly, if I have to take the R train into Manhattan every day, I will lose my mind. And be late to everything, always.) Regardless, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE that I have my own place by September 1st.

Anyway, onto food!

what was produced by my domesticity

Teddy and I found a new hangout on Broome Street. I have no idea what it’s called, but the wine list is gargantuan, the interior is all softly-lit cherry wood, and the entire staff are funny and nice(!) French people. Here’s a shot of the menu board:

Sampling of what we usually eat:

(crab and avocado tartare, beef tartare, prosciutto and goat cheese “cigars”)

(porcini tagliatelle, OMG)

The restaurant is across the street from one of my favorite LES buildings:

Changing gears- we had cocktails at the Plaza last week and the drink menu contained the most fantastic category heading EVER:

The last week or so I have been too stressed out to eat, which I fucking hate. Brown rice is pretty much the only thing that doesn’t make me sick. Also, I have not really been sleeping… according to Dennis, I spend most of the night alternately kicking him, punching him, or trying to claw my skin off. I asked my psychiatrist about it and she spent 20 minutes looking through her PDR before telling me she would get back to me next week.

The End.

Next time on Put It in My Mouth: the time I met the real-live version of the rockstar from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Dennis’s and my epic trip to Ikea, the time I wore a gold lamé one-piece out in public, and the story of Chowder McSnuggles, the friendliest one-eyed feral cat EVER.

Hi! Some things:

1. My lovely wonderful amazing boyfriend gave me a Canon Elph SD1000 to replace my crappy cheap Kodak! While the 1000 isn't quite as amazing as the 750 I used to have (and which a shady employee of the Howard Johnson on Houston Street is presumably still using and loving), it's a great camera and probably my favorite new-ish point and shoot digital on the market right now.

(1.5. The only problem is I can't find the cable to connect it to my computer so I can't show you the fabulous new pictures of the food I've been making/scary subway stations I've been getting lost in.)

2. I made Dennis a monkey!

Photobucket

Right now he's keeping Dennis company at work but we have some big plans for him in the future.

3. I have a new best friend.

LOOK AT THAT FACE! I WANT TO EAT IT!

4. BRUNCH!

Yay, first brunch back with my hardcore Sunday Brunch friends! (clockwise from bottom left: Matt F, Miranda, Mahsa, me, Rebecca, Teddy.)

5. Teddy and I went to Cakeshop, which has expanded its food selection to include DELICIOUS VEGAN CUPCAKES!

They also put up a new piece of artwork that I must own immediately. $400 sounds reasonable, right? I really need to get a job so I can start saving up.
